Sacrament
of the Annointing
According
to the Pastoral Care of the Sick (the instruction for ministry
to the sick and dying, and approved by the National Conference
of Catholic Bishops, and confirmed by the Apostolic See), the Sacrament
of the Anointing is "the proper sacrament for Christians whose
health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age."
It should be celebrated at the beginning of a serious illness or
before surgery. The celebration of this sacrament is meant
to take place "while the sick person is capable of active participation."
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of healing
and can only be administered by a priest or bishop.
Twice a year,
St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, celebrates this Sacrament in the
contact of the Eucharist (another healing sacrament).
Even though
we all suffer from various troubles and trial, this sacrament is
intended for those who are "seriously impaired by sickness
or old age"
